How do I packet capture on a Yeastar PBX?

1. Packet Capture (PCAP) and Wireshark
Yeastar includes an Ethernet Capture Tool. It allows you to record network traffic directly on the PBX and export it for external analysis.

How it works: You select the relevant network interface (or all interfaces) and click Start to begin capturing.
Reproduction: While the tool is running, you reproduce the call issue (e.g., a call failure or audio problem).

Analysis: Once you stop the capture, you can download a .tar file containing a .pcap log. This file can be opened directly in Wireshark to inspect SIP signaling, RTP streams, and registration packets.

2. Network Diagnostic Tools
For fundamental network troubleshooting, Yeastar includes standard utilities within the same menu to verify connectivity and latency:

IP Ping: Used to test if the PBX can reach a specific gateway or provider IP and to check for packet loss or high round-trip times.
Traceroute: Tracks the path packets take to reach a destination server, helping you locate network faults or problematic gateways outside your local network.

3. Hardware & Port Monitoring
If your Yeastar system uses physical analog or mobile modules (FXS, FXO, GSM), there are dedicated tools for those non-SIP interfaces:

Port Monitor Tool: Specifically for troubleshooting issues on FXO, FXS, or GSM channels.
QXDM Capture Tool: An advanced tool for tracing and debugging data specifically through mobile trunks.

4. Advanced Monitoring & Quality Detection
For monitoring call quality and system health without running manual captures, Yeastar offers:
  • Core Call Service Anomaly Detection: Automatically detects health issues in the core call service that might lead to registration drops or call failures and can initiate a recovery process.
  • System Logs: The PBX automatically generates debug, warning, and error logs that can be downloaded for detailed diagnostic review.
