How to connect the Fanvil PA3 SIP Paging Gateway to a legacy (PBX)
To connect the Fanvil PA3 SIP Paging Gateway to a legacy Private Branch Exchange (PBX), you must use an intermediary device, such as a VoIP Gateway or a Foreign Exchange Station (FXS) Analog Telephone Adapter (ATA), to bridge the gap between the legacy analog system and the SIP-based PA3. The Fanvil PA3 is a fully IP-based device that supports the SIP protocol.
Connection Steps:
Connect the Fanvil PA3 to your IP Network:
Connect the Fanvil PA3 using an Ethernet cable to your local area network (LAN) with Power over Ethernet (PoE) support, if available (it supports PoE Class 4).
Configure the Fanvil PA3 (SIP Side):
Access the Fanvil PA3's web interface using its IP address (which you can find by long-pressing the volume down key for 3 seconds after power-on). Configure one of the two SIP lines with the details from your IP PBX system (e.g., username, password, server address, etc.).
Connect your existing speakers/amplifier to the appropriate terminal blocks on the PA3 (it has a built-in 10-30W power amplifier). Connect and Configure the VoIP Gateway/FXS ATA (Legacy PBX Side):
Connect the FXS port of the VoIP gateway/ATA to a spare analog extension port on your legacy PBX using a standard phone cable. Connect the network port of the VoIP gateway/ATA to your IP network. Configure this gateway/ATA to register as a SIP endpoint on the same IP PBX system that the Fanvil PA3 is registered to.
Establish Paging Linkage:
In your central IP PBX system (or the configuration of the devices if operating peer-to-peer), you can now configure a paging group or extension that includes the Fanvil PA3. When an analog phone connected to the legacy PBX dials the specific extension number associated with the VoIP Gateway/FXS ATA, the call will be routed over the IP network to the Fanvil PA3, initiating the page through the connected speakers. This essentially bridges the analog and IP systems for public announcement.
